Program Learning Outcomes

By the end of the program, participants will:

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the Australian healthcare system and its legal and ethical frameworks.
  • Perform essential clinical and procedural skills safely and to Australian standards.
  • Communicate effectively with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Recognize and manage medical emergencies.
  • Engage in culturally safe, patient-centered care.
  • Integrate seamlessly into hospital and primary care workflows.

Curriculum Structure

Module 1: Foundations of Australian Healthcare Practice

  • Australian public and private healthcare system overview.
  • Medicare and Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
  • Referral pathways and multidisciplinary care.
  • Legal and ethical frameworks: confidentiality, consent, mandatory reporting, and end-of-life care.
  • Introduction to Indigenous health and cultural safety.

Module 2: Clinical Communication and Professionalism

  • History-taking and clinical examination for diverse populations.
  • Use of interpreters and managing language barriers.
  • Breaking bad news and difficult conversations.
  • Professional conduct, teamwork, and conflict resolution.
  • Consent-taking and examination etiquette.
  • Time management in clinical settings.

Module 3: Practical Clinical Skills Development

  • IV cannulation, catheterization, wound care, and suturing.
  • Arterial blood gas sampling.
  • Basic airway management (bag-valve-mask ventilation).
  • ECG and chest X-ray interpretation.
  • Peak flow measurement and basic ultrasound for vascular access.
  • ALS 1 & 2 training and certification.
  • Clinical documentation: SOAP notes, discharge summaries.

Module 4: Chronic Disease and Population Health Management

  • Management of diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease.
  • Patient education and chronic disease self-management.
  • Mental health care and suicide risk management.
  • Preventive care: screening and immunization.

Module 5: Systems and Workflow Familiarisation

  • Hospital and outpatient workflow orientation.
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) use and documentation standards.
  • Managing general practice consultations.
  • Telemedicine principles, ethics, and best practices.

Module 6: Cultural and Patient-Centred Care

  • Providing care in a multicultural context.
  • Shared decision-making and patient engagement.
  • Indigenous cultural safety protocols.
  • Managing cultural nuances in clinical care.

Module 7: Clinical Assessment and Feedback

  • Structured OSCEs assessing communication, procedural, and diagnostic skills.
  • Regular performance feedback and mentorship.
  • Reflective journaling and group debrief sessions.

Module 8: Work-Integrated Learning (Optional Extension)

  • Supervised clinical placements in hospitals and community settings.
  • Participation in ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and MDT meetings.
  • Weekly case-based discussions and reflective practice.

Program Duration Options

  • 4-Week Intensive Bridging Program
  • 12–18 Week Extended Program with Clinical Placement
  • Part-Time Flexible Delivery over 6 Months

4-Week Intensive Program: Module Timetable

This is going to be flexible depending on the clinicans availability and number of students.

Week 1: Non-Clinical (Orientation & Foundations)

  • Day 1: Program Introduction, Australian Healthcare System Overview
  • Day 2: Medicare, PBS, Legal & Ethical Frameworks
  • Day 3: Indigenous Health & Cultural Safety
  • Day 4: Communication Skills, Use of Interpreters
  • Day 5: Professionalism, Conflict Resolution, Consent Taking

Week 2: Non-Clinical (Skills Workshops & Simulation)

  • Day 1: History-Taking, Clinical Examination Skills
  • Day 2: IV Cannulation, hand hygiene, Wound Management, basic suturing 
  • Day 3: ABG Sampling, Airway Management (Bag-Valve-Mask), oxygen therapy management 
  • Day 4: ECG & X-Ray Interpretation, Peak Flow, Point of care Ultrasound Machine Basics
  • Day 5: orientation to clinical environment tour to hospital/nursing home/GP clinic/pharmacy/Physiotherapy outpatients
  • Each day will have mental health decluttering programs for candidates - how to manage stress in a new place of work and the demands of health care .

Week 3: Clinical (Hospital/Outpatient Placements)

  • Day 1–4: Basic life support/Advanced life support 1/advanced life support 2 
  • Daily: Ward Rounds, Documentation Practice (SOAP notes, Discharge Summaries)
  • Evening: Reflective Journaling & Debrief

Week 4: Clinical + Assessments

  • Day 1–3: Continued Clinical Placements & Case Discussions
  • Day 4: OSCE Simulation (History-taking, Procedural Skills, Emergency Response)
  • Day 5: Feedback, Mentorship Review, Cultural Competency Session, Graduation Ceremony

We will add the supervised clinical mock exams of 30 cases spread out throughout this period. 

Program Certification

Upon successful completion, participants will receive

  • Certificate of participation , Completion and Competency Endorsement
  • ALS 1 & 2 Certification, hand hygiene, mandatory reporting certificates, manual handling, 
  • OSCE Readiness Assessment Report
  • Cultural Safety Training Certification
  • Opportunity to work as a virtual telemedicine physician assistant after completion. 
  • Mentorship and guidance support for ongoing career planning
